The ultimate foundation of human rights
At this particular
time in history, we are unfortunately
living in a world which is finding new ways to discount
the value of the human person!
It is a fact that this is occurring everyday,
from even
before the moment of conception as in
in-vitro
fertilization (test-tube babies)
and
continues to even before natural death, as in euthanasia
(mercy-killing).

LET US NOT BE LED INTO THE

II begins this portion of the document,

"It is appropriate to recall that the
FOUNDATION
ON WHICH ALL HUMAN RIGHTS
REST IS THE DIGNITY OF THE PERSON."

He continues, "God’s

Therefore, it is extremely vital that we remember that the importance of the existence of the person,

him or herself, is the

Without the

born,
any talk about other rights is senseless!!!

Luke, Chapter 12, verses 22-28, And He said to His disciples: "Therefore
I say to you, be not solicitous for your life, what you

In Mark, Chapter
2, verse 27, Jesus reinforces the dignity of the human person with these words: "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath." |

In Matthew, Chapter
19, verses 5-8,
Our Lord speaks about the sanctity of marriage, which is where the dignity of new life is meant to begin: "For this cause
shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and
they two shall be in one flesh. AND In Chapter 19, verses 13-14, Then were little children presented to
Him, that He should impose hands upon them and pray. And the
disciples rebuked Him.

In John, Chapter 8,
verses 10-11,
Our Lord, Himself,
defends the dignity
of women. Then Jesus lifting up Himself, said to her: "Woman, where are they that accused thee? Hath no man condemned thee?" Who {she} said: "No man, Lord." And Jesus said: "Neither will I condemn thee. Go, and now sin no more."

Our Holy Father continually reminds us that our
dignity as
children of God is the
very source, beginning, or well-spring of our
human
rights!
BUT
being true
children of God,
we also have been given
extremely
important responsibilities!
One of these responsibilities is realizing the fact that because we have
been made in His
image and likeness,

Pope John Paul II reminds us that we must have
respect for the
dignity of
all
people, even if they are strangers or enemies.
It is because of this
divine
relationship with God
that we are ultimately
